The queen of Christmas herself Mariah Carey earns a very decent sum of money for a song she debuted 30 years ago.
‘All I Want for Is You’ came out way back in 1994 and was an instant classic, reaching number two in the charts and number six over in the

âWhen I wrote [it], I had absolutely no idea the impact the song would eventually have worldwide,â Carey, 55, Billboard in an honest admission.
âHow could I? It was so early on in my career and most young artists, at that time, werenât really making Christmas music at the onset of their careers.
âWhen writing [it], I was tapping into a bittersweet mixture of longing and festiveness.

âI had grown up wishing I could have a functional family Christmas like the ones I saw on or in the  but truth is⊠that never happened!
âSo, I wrote the song for the little girl in me filled with holiday spirit.
âThe record really has brought me full circle, and Iâm so full of gratitude that so many people enjoy it with me every year.â
At the time of writing, the song is currently number 10 in the UK chart and is likely to rise in the lead up to 25 December.
With all its success, The Economist that the song earned $60 million in royalties between its 1994 release and 2017.
This worked out to about $2.6 million per year, which is around ÂŁ2.1 million.
Based on previous figures, it means Carey still earns a whopping ÂŁ5,753 a day, which is ÂŁ239.70 an hour.
Not bad for a song that came out 30 years ago…
Commenting on the track, one fan said: “It’s amazing how this song is timeless, reborn every November, and then dies after Christmas, Mariah thought of a marketing genius.
“Mariah Carey has officially defrosted from her iceberg. We will now not stop hearing Christmas songs until dec 31,” a second penned.
“Happy to see y’all again this year, is a great season, happy holidays, IT’S TIIIIIMMEEEEEEE,” wrote a third.
As someone else said: “All her songs are superb. But this is by far what makes Mariah legendary. So iconic.”
It’s not just the Christmas tree that is getting lit this year, because the team down at a Sydney bar is getting into the festive season of giving with a holiday hoedown.
While there will be plenty of fun to be had at Jolene’s, there will be one big thing that absolutely won’t be present.
Bar owner Simon Rose-Hopkins told “We’ve got a Country Christmas playlist, but we won’t be playing Mariah.”
Yep, so if you’re a fan of Carey’s warbling classic ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’, then we regret to inform you that the country and western watering hole will be a Mariah-free zone.
That being said, the Christmas cheer is well and truly here at Joleneâs.
“We are doing Christmas on steroids,” Rose-Hopkins said.
“We’ve got lights, reindeers, Christmas trees and Christmas cocktails like a Gingerbread Manhattan and a Pavlova Christmas slushie.”
But, guess what else is also missing under Jolene’s mistletoe this year? Michael BublĂ©.
That’s right, there will be zero clichĂ©d Christmas crap to be found at all at Jolene’s.
But that doesnât mean that Rose-Hopkins is a Grinch.
Instead, the bar will opt for covers by classic country artists like Lee Kernaghan, who has a western cover of ‘Jingle Bell Rock’, Blake Sheltonâs tune ‘Two Step âRound the Christmas Tree’, and of course, Dolly Partonâs ‘A Smokey Mountain Christmas’.
Parton did write the song the bar is named for, after all.
So far, there have been no Navidad naysayers descending on the bar in Sydney’s CBD, with the owner revealing they have received precisely zero complaints over their Christmas bop ban.
“We get a lot of retailer workers coming in after their stores close and say thank you because they are so over hearing the traditional retail Christmas music,” Rose-Hopkins toldÂ
He added that the bad music boycott has ‘been met with giggles and admiration’.
Despite Jolene’s refusal to partake in a clichĂ©d Christmas, Mariah Carey is still sitting on top with the classic tune.
The song, originally released in 1994, returned to the UK  last week, as per  and is now sitting at number one.
It is also placed at number three on the Australian which just goes to show that there are  that still enjoy the Christmas classic.
Research indicates about $2.5 million per year for ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’.
The study also said the artist had earned $60 million by 2016 from the that released more than two decades earlier.
If the song is just as successful this holiday season, Carey could be looking at a staggering $75 million from just that one
So, we’re pretty sure that the Grammy Award winner will be fine if sheâs copped a Christmas ban from a bar for the holiday season
Thereâs no denying that cruise ships are a very popular way to travel. So popular in fact some people actually choose to live on them.
And while some passengers are to enjoy the lifestyle, others are getting.
Plenty of cruise ship workers have taken to give an insight into employee life – from to what they
And one has shared the incredible amount of they make per hour while onboard.
documents his time as a musician working on cruise ships like Virgin Voyages.
He spends 10 months a year working onboard, travelling the world âand getting paid at the same timeâ.
In one video, he worked out the âhourly wage of a cruise ship musicianâ.
Jack explained that musicians tend to earn $4,000 (ÂŁ3,129) a month while working for one and a half hours a day, six days a week.
So, in total, he said he does âjust nine hours âworkâ a weekâ, which equates to approximately just 36 hours a month.
âIn other words thatâs $111.11 an hour!â Jack explained. âAnd by the way, itâs an awesome job.â
Yep, the musician said he earns around ÂŁ86.90 per hour of work he does. Although, he did explain that rehearsal and practice time isnât included in those hours heâs counted – that typically happens before they embark.
And of course, Jack has to live on board for this job – something he lists in another video as a major perk.
âI can easily save thousands each month,â he said. âBecause two of lifeâs biggest outgoings in rent and food are totally free – even the flights are paid for.â
He also added in the comments that itâs ânot compulsoryâ to do other jobs during the day on the ship, but you âcan volunteer and help out other departments like a side hustleâ.
Another cruise ship worker, called Amber, previously explained the things they do have to pay for.
Obviously it depends on the cruise liner but the entertainer said they do have to pay for alcoholic drinks but they have access to their own âcrew barâ where the drinks are âheavily discountedâ.
She also said that on the ships we works on, the crew have to pay to use the WiFi and that there isnât actually a lot of freebies for them.
Amber added: âIf we want to buy any snacks, souvenirs, we do have to pay for it.
âBut once again, it is at a discounted price to what the guests pay and we get about 20 percent off, which helps so, so much.
