With a genuinely remarkable performance by Marc Métral and his talking dog, Wendy, the first audition week of Britain’s Got Talent 2015 got underway. Both the judges and the audience were curious as the pair took the stage. However, what transpired was a performance that would become a landmark in the history of Britain’s Got Talent.
Marc, a talented ventriloquist, presented Wendy, his bright and exceptionally gifted dog, who was anything but a typical dog. As Marc started questioning Wendy, her eager demeanor and soulful eyes gave the impression that she was acting independently, and she responded in a way that had everyone in the auditorium laughing.
“What is your favorite food, Wendy?” After a brief pause, Wendy “spoke” her response in a humorously human-sounding voice to Marc’s question: “Sausages!”
The audience burst out laughing, but Marc wasn’t finished. “Wendy, do you like Simon Cowell?” he asked, continuing his teasing. Even Simon was taken aback when Wendy retorted, “He’s grumpy!” The judges and audience both burst out laughing at this clever conversation, with Simon laughing more than anyone had anticipated.
Amanda Holden said, “I’ve never seen anything like this before!” with obvious amusement. Marc, you’re a genius, and Wendy is hilarious! “This is exactly what Britain’s Got Talent is all about—surprise us with something so unique and so entertaining,” Alesha Dixon continued.
When Marc asked Wendy whether she could perform a trick, Wendy said, “I can talk, what more do you want?” as the act came to a close. Marc and Wendy received a well-earned standing ovation from the audience.
Renowned for his scathing criticism, Simon Cowell grinned widely and remarked, “I wasn’t sure at first, but that was absolutely brilliant.” One of the most distinctive acts we’ve ever had on this show is you and Wendy.
Marc and Wendy were instant favorites among the public after receiving four yeses from the judges and moving on to the next stage. Their audition was one of the season’s most talked-about events, demonstrating that talent has no bounds, even for a dog.
